2020, a year of turmoil has also been playing a
vital role in making us learn about life and its uncertainties. It has
literally proved the idiom, “change is the ultimate truth of life”. Since March
lots has happened in India and around the world. The world around has altered
extensively in the Covid-19 pandemic situation for each and everyone. In India
the basic livelihood has been changed for almost every family which has been
witnessed by iMerit family as well. The whole scenario of the work culture has been
turned into “work from home” mode.
Our
iMerit family was just coping up with the new normal when “Amphan”, the super
cyclone originated in the middle of the Bay of Bengal hit the coastal areas of
West Bengal including Kolkata, suburbs and parts of Sundarban areas. The huge
cyclone destructed our own capital city impacting almost all the essential
services and facilities. Work from home system also suffered the blow of Amphan
and the normal livelihood of people suffered a great blow around the affected
areas which were already facing various challenges and issues due to the
lockdown and Covid-19. During this grave situation we took the initiative to stand by the people of Manmathanagar, a village under Gosaba block in South Twenty Four Parganas in the state of West Bengal with the warm support of our loving CEO, Ms. Radha Basu and all other members of iMerit family.
On 20th June, 2020 we visited the village to serve around two hundred families with food items and essentials along with some books and copies for the children there. The time was difficult and though it was a small initiative from our side to begin the journey of more such welfare programmes, the best gift for us was the unconditional love, blessings along with the happy smile on the faces of the people affected by ‘Amphan’.
iMerit
will never forget this unconventional experience which was not only a break
from monotony of work from home but also a learning experience along with exceptional
memories.
