My Work From Home Experience
By Nima Tenzin - Bhutan
Can any night be better than this night? The night of 11th august, no alarm will hit my ears at 02:00 pm, I don't have to rush off my bed, get ready, wear my gho and see if I look as dashing as yesterday. Then sometimes I skip my breakfast cum lunch and dash toward the office catching my breath on the way because I don't want my supervisor to get upset with me for being late. With nothing like that on my mind, I peacefully landed on my bed because it was locked down and we were asking to work from home starting the next day.
“Hello? Still in your bed, I am Sonam, your team leader. Let’s discuss the task for today and get started. “ the call ended. Not at alarm but a call started my day. I thought days would be so much fun with less work and more relaxation but then I had to stop dreaming. After 5 to 10 minutes of the discussion, which I attended from my bed, of course. I was fully equipped with my task to be done for today.
I jumped off the bed, went to the washroom, wore my comfortable clothes, had breakfast and sat right in front of my desktop to begin my work. Yes, it was like no other day, I was in my pyjamas. Neither had I done my hair properly nor applied cream over my face and loosely sitting on my chair because no one was around me to tease me for how I looked or how i was sitting. I started my work and to my surprise, I Was thinking better and was being creative. Is it that I had my energy with me which I usually lose it While running for office or is it that it was my house, my comfort zone.
About seriously working for hours my mind got distracted by the little tortoise doll which was placed right beside me on the table. I held it in my hand and became Walter Mitty of Bhutan, whereby I was winning the race against the rabbit and becoming a well known moral value to the world that is you become successful by doing things slowly and steadily rather than quickly and carelessly. While I was still appreciating myself in my world I was brought back to reality when my niece tabbed me saying she was bored of her online lesson and wanted me to play around with her. So I started to chase her around the house while she was spreading happiness around the house with her laughter. It was evening by then. My sister served the family with tea and some homemade snacks, while the rest of us were updating ourselves on the Covid-19 cases in the country. In the middle of having our snacks, me and my brother in law predicted the source of the community transmission upon hearing the news. The phone rang. It was a video call from mom who is at Paro. She had her charming smile on the face and started to narrate how fruitfully she spent her day at home. While they were engaged in the conversation I got back to my work which was almost completed.
After having the delicious dinner prepared by lockdown master chef my sister. I went back to my room so relax and be satisfied for the day. I pulled over my phone and started my everyday routine of pubg with my friend. While playing in the background we chatted about how the work from home process is going and almost everyone had the same response. It was relaxing and satisfying too. When the third match got over I decided to call it a day. So I turned off the game and lay my head on the pillow and my mind automatically started to compare working experience at the office and home. My mind said, “it must be nice having a job where you can work from home”.
Wonderful
